Using an old pair of jeans - MEN'S for large tote, WOMEN'S for medium tote and CHILD'S (about a size 7) for a just right size purse. 1. Cut jeans where legs start as in example.
This creates a nicer, rounded look to the outside of the purse. The cut edges of these seams can be finished with a machine zig- zag stitch or by using “Fray- Check”- a liquid finish that prevents fabric edges from fraying. Available at sewing supply stores.
3. Cut 2 straps, each 3 1/2” x 29” from remainder of legs. You may need to use another a pair of jeans if legs are too short.
4. Press each strap in half lengthwise, right side out. Turn long cut edges under 1/2” , press down with iron and pin together. Stitch these edges together or use fusible hemming tape (for heavy fabric) or fabric glue.
5. On front of purse, pin one strap inside the waistband, about 1/2” away from the side. Hand stitch, using very strong thread, or machine stitch several times. Sew the other three straps the same way.
6. Decorate your purse using the Coyote Appliqué, or use fabric flowers, discarded jewelry, sequins and beads. Add a fancy belt through the belt loops and turn this into a really unique and fun purse. This purse was made using a miniature wood fence and a wood train.
