Product Information
Step 1. Choose a soft fabric preferably one with a weave that will make
self-fringing easy. You can test the fringe-ability of the fabric by pulling a
lengthwise or crosswise thread on the very edge of the fabric. The easier
the thread pulls out the quicker it will be to fringe. Of course the
lengthwise side of the fabric will probably have a salvage edge. Some-times
the edge is nice enough to incorporate into the design but most times it is best
to cut this edge off and then fringe it.
Step 2. You will need 1 1/2 yards of fabric.
a.)Cut fabric in a rectangle - 58" on the length or salvage side and 25" on
the cross side, as in the following illustration.

b.)Cut the edges as even as possible. Fringing all sides by pulling threads out so
fabric forms a self-fringe. The fringe can as long or short as desired. If the
lengthwise edge has a nice salvage you can leave it as the finished edge; or you can
cut the salvage off and fringe this by pulling the threads out. The fringe on this edge
can be the same depth as the other fringes or not.
c.)Fold the top fringed edge over to the right side of the fabric and make a fold 1 1/2"
from the fringed edge as in the following illustration.

Another simple poncho to make is the V Shape Poncho. This requires 1 ½ yards of fabric.
a.)Fold the length of the fabric to meet the cross edge. This forms a bias fold to
the top of the fabric. You will now have a V shape.

b.)Find the center of top fold and cut on this fold 6 ½” on each side of the center.
This will form the neck opening.

c.)Turn poncho to the inside and machine zigzag or overcast the edges of the neckline slit.
d.)Turn this overcast edge down to the reverse side of fabric about 1/4 to 1/2" and stitch
down by hand or machine.
e.)All the side edges of the poncho can be self fringed as in the previous instructions
or you can purchase a fancy fringe (about 1 1/2 yards) and sew to the edge.
